Erev Shabbat
Friday Evening 7:30pm Joyce and Jerome Mack Sanctuary Shabbat is a celebratory time for Congregation Ner Tamid. At the heart of our Shabbat experience is our worship services. Led by Sr. Rabbi Sanford Akselrad, Asst Rabbi Len Zukrow and Cantorial Soloist Philip Goldstein, our services provide a nice blending of traditional and more recent melodies. From singable songs to inspiring solos, the Congregation seeks to draw worshipers into a highly participatory and inspiring service each week.
"The Shabbat Morning Experience" Every Saturday at 9:00am, this lay-led group focuses on Jewish texts outside of the Torah, often focusing on a particular book of the Bible for several weeks to delve into a fascinating study of ethics, history and religious teaching. Every Saturday at 10:00am, participatory Shabbat Morning Services, including a reading from the Torah, are held using the brand-new prayer book of the Reform Movement (Mishkan Tefillah - beginning in July of 2007). The morning concludes with a group discussion of Parashat Hashavuah (the weekly Torah portion) in English. Coffee, tea, and a nosh are available each week. You may come to one hour or stay the entire morning... the entire Saturday morning experience is free and open to all members of the community. The Shabbatones Led by Cantorial Soloist Philip Goldstein, The Shabbatones provide the Southern Nevada Jewish community a unique, contemporary and spiritually uplifting Kabbalat Shabbat. Since 1999, this outstanding all volunteer group of musicians bring the new sounds of worship to Congregation Ner Tamid. Our Shabbatones Service fills our sanctuary to beyond capacity each and every time. The Shabbatones released their first CD in 2005.
